Examination
for Accreditation in Public Relations
Released on July 1, 2003, the re-engineered Examination for Accreditation
in Public Relations was developed by the Universal Accreditation
Board (of which SPRF is a partner) using current best practices
in professional certification programs under the guidance of three
world-class consulting firms. This new exam, states UAB Chair Nancy
Wood, "serves as a reliable measure of a candidate's mastery
of the PR body of knowledge and will contribute to the long-term
credibility of Accreditation and progress for our profession."
Accreditation Basics
Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) is awarded to those PR practitioners
with five years+ experience (suggested) who successfully pass the
exam, administered nationally by the Public Relations Society of
America and Prometric Testing Centers. The testing process includes
a Readiness Review, which serves as a "gateway" to the
written examination and consists of a portfolio review and oral
assessment by three accredited panelists. The computer-based written
portion can be taken at any time of the year, at the candidate's
convenience, at Sylvan Learning Center on Zelda Road, and consists
of multiple choice questions testing 10 areas of practice. Throughout
the process, the candidate is mentored by his/her "readiness"
panelists, who provide guidance on areas and suggested texts of
study.
